I'm not sure if anyone here would need to use [list2symbol] that works in vanilla but I just created one today since someone in the Facebook group asked for it.
It works just like zexy's [list2symbol]. it works from pd-0.47. I hope someone finds it useful.

I need a "drop in replacement" for [cxc_split]. I have a long way to go with it...... simplification and added features and greater compatibility........... but here it is "so far"......... edit.zip
I am slowly trying to make abstractions to replace all the extended externals that I have used over the years. The aim is to be able to simply "pour" them into a patch folder and have everything working in a plain vanilla install.

I didn't know about [cxc_split] but It looks like it's pretty similar to zexy's [symbol2list].
So I just created [vs2l] which is a vanilla symbol2list abstraction.
I also added the delimiter feature so it works just like original zexy's.

Nice work @cuinjune. The tricky thing is getting it to interpret floats, as is consistent with s2l (and very useful)

It should be possible to accomplish this, along the lines I drafted here (fifth post). But it will get even more complicated if you want to include decimals (not to mention E numbers...)

One other comment: in your patch, you are using [list append] to iterate and accumulate lists. This works, but it gets exponentially slower the longer the list is, since the latest list is copied with every iteration. Try feeding your abstraction a list of several hundred atoms and see what happens!

For iterating, the best Vanilla solution I'm aware of is [list-abs/list-drip] (look here if you need a good explanation).

For accumulating, I think it's best to use [textfile]. I have an abstraction called "collect" which I use for this job which looks something like this:

When I tested this, I found that it works exponentially faster than the [list append] x [t a] method. But I'd be interested to hear if others have found an even better solution for list accumulation.

I created [vs2f] abstraction which converts symbol to float.
I just added a floating point interpretation feature on top of your patch.
So now [vs2l] can be unpacked to floats as well.
I see your point. It could get faster with some replacements. Maybe someone can replace the parts if necessary.
But I think the current one would be fast enough to use in most cases.

i tried to simplify the abstractions with help from the objects [fudiparse] and [fudiformat].
[vs2f] is replaced with [fudiparse].

I am also interested in the comment from @LiamG regarding accumulating lists 3 posts above. He showed an example with textfile instead of iterating lists with list prepend and trigger like in the abstraction. Or would it make sense to use Text define\get\set for accumulating lists instead? Maybe only for long lists (one would need a few more objects?)? Or, more in general, what do you think is the best method for accumulating lists with pure data?

@Jona I believe [append $1( to [list store] is the best and fastest. I havn't done the comparison with [textfile], but it is considerably faster than [text].

[textfile] is actually faster than [list store]: textfiletest.pd

and to iterate a list is much slower, so i use [textfile] for now.
the larger the list the bigger the difference, for small lists the difference between the methods is neglectable.

[vfs2l] does not accept delimiters with more than one character yet.
