Hello I downloaded the tar.gz file and am trying to follow the install instructions. When I try to run the autogen.sh script I get this?

joe@joe-Satellite-A135:/usr/lib/pd-0.47-0$ sudo ./autogen.sh
./autogen.sh: 22: ./autogen.sh: autoreconf: not found
joe@joe-Satellite-A135:/usr/lib/pd-0.47-0$

Is there any comprehensive guide? What am I missing? Is ther and installation forum? Thanks

Yeah you need to compile that source code before installing, but it looks like you've got a "plain" Ubuntu install with no development files installed. There's probably some pre-compiled .deb binaries out there for Ubuntu but I don't have a link right now. Check out puredata.info. They do have a development guide:

Do you have automake and libtool installed? You'll need those for the autogen.sh and configure.sh scripts to run.
Note that if you need Jack support you should run the configure script like this:
./configure.sh --enable-jack
Plus you'll need the development package for Jack and ALSA.
Of course this is written in the INSTALL.txt, but I'm just mentioning here
