PD and EyesWeb
Hi there,
I think you can talk between pd and eyesweb using osc object in pd
Motion tracking? like how to touch a virtual button with your hand?
its quite simple in the theory, but tricky in practical usage.
assuming you use pix_multiblob for tracking
you will get xy positions for the tracked blobs.
to trigger a button, simply compare the xy position of the tracked input stream with the xy pos of your button. when x && y values are in a specified treshold, the button is made active.
but the trick part is to get propper xy values from the tracker.
you cant just say: lets do some motiontracking, but you will need to know what to track...hands? hole body? multiple persons?
depending on what you want, you will plan the setup, as the most important thing is to come up with a solution that gives you the best results. be aware that you wont be able to track features in any situations. Its very much a process of trial and error
there are many tricks to get good video material that can be tracked. background substraction, just to name one. Also there are many enviroment variables that can mess up the tracking, for example changing light situations...noisy background
tracking will be good if you have maximum control over the scene.
for example
you have a stage performance with black walls and a white dressed actor.

Pd/Max Patching Circle tomorrow 1/20, 6-10pm
Join us at Eyebeam tomorrow (Thursday) from 6-10pm! We'll be playing with the Kinect camera again, plus working on the Pd Starter Kit. Bring whatever you are working on, or come see what others are doing. And next month we'll be at The Chocolate Factory in Brooklyn, hosted by Lee Azzarello.

We spend enough time alone staring at our computers; we are proposing
to work together. So often issues that arise when working can be
solved with a quick two minute discussion that would take hours to
solve alone. We have Dorkbot to see people's work, we have Share where
anyone can play, we have workshops and universities to learn from.
This is a meeting where we all can come to work.
This is an informal gathering of patching and patchers (Pd, Max/MSP/
Jitter, and even vvvv, Eyesweb, Labview, etc.). Beginners and
Experienced welcome. Open to everyone, students, the public, etc. Work
on personal projects, professional projects, school projects, ask for
help, help others, or just patch quietly to yourself, in a room full of
other people patching patches and helping other people patch.

Animata / eyesweb / MAC
hi! im working on also on a dance project and tried some tracking software like eyesweb, openCV. i couldnt find something similar to the skeleton tracking in eyesweb, wich is a great tool for these things. if you need that, why dont you use a pc for the tracking and send data via network to your mac?
Animata / eyesweb / MAC
Hi, I'm preparing a project with a dancer, and we would like to experiment with ANIMATA and play with live animation...
For the moment I've found eyesweb, that it's not so complicate for tracking mouvement and draw the skeleton of the dancer and then trough OSC and a little PD patch send the info to animata...
But the problem is that I'm on a MAC and eyesweb is for PC... so everything is complicated..
My question is.. someone has develpped something similar to eyesweb... I know that with PD we can do this... but i don't know how to start... and i need some help... If someone is interesting we can create a really interesting patch for the PD users...
Thanks to all that can help...

GEM ENGINE RELEASED
i share the fruits of a year of work on a 3d navigation system for gem.
goto: www.3rd-eye.at and click blog to download it.
i hope this will open many possibilities for tose interested in realtime 3d visuals and interactive installations.
i also hope you will like it and help me to improve it over time.
some more example files will follow, when i find the time to clean up.
knowen issues:
it was developed on win, it works also on other platforms, but the keyboardmapping was a problem i couldnt solve by now, if someone could help, id be glad.
please report if you experience bugs, and id be also glad to receive a note if you make somethig nice
GEM-Engine 1.0 is a collection of abstractions for PureData Extended.
It employs 3D navigation like you know it from 3D Programms like 3Ds Max or others in GEM, Pd's openGL engine.
It enables you to navigate in 3d space using your mouse, or other input devices. It provides objects to select and move things in space among many other useful little tools for creating your interactive realtime 3d scenes within Pd.
There is also a bunch of MaxScripts, that export coordinate lists of any kind of animated objects from 3DsMax to Pd. By this procedure you can use motion data produced by ParticleFlow, Physics Simulations, Biped-Skeleton Animations or whatever in GEM.
If you use another 3D Programm you will have to write your own export scripts, which shouldnt be hard to do. IF YOU SUCCEED please let me know, so i can include them in the package. I'd also be glad to hear your experiences with it, just drop me a mail sonsofsol@gmx.net
why PD?
* span the gemwindow over a couple of gfx-card outputs using expanded desktop mode (9 screens @ 1280 x 1024 is the most i did)
* use multiple inputs for machine user interaction like: Wii Controller (piped via osc from Karl Kenners Glovepie), MIDI devices, sensors with Arduino boards, Live Camera Tracking with openCV or EyesWeb, Wacom tablets, ARToolkit coordinates, SoundAnalysis… (procedures are platform dependend) ....actually pd can connect with whatever runs on electricity.
* output multichannel audio
* control mechatronics using Arduino, DMX or MIDI.
All this makes my little Gem engine a good place to start developing interactive multimedia installations or sound reactive VJ sets.
NYC Patching Circle this Thursday 11/18, 6-10pm
The Patching Circle got a residency at Eyebeam! So for the next three months, we'll be on a Thursday evening, starting this Thursday. And Miller Puckette, the creator of Pd/Max will be joining me as a guest host this Thursday and next month. Pure Data 0.43 is about to be released, so some of us will be working on finalizing that. It includes a major update to the GUI to enable lots of customization. You can now customize the Pd GUI using simple plugins. Come bring your projects or try out Pd 0.43.
We'll be at Eyebeam this Thursday from 6-10pm, please RSVP to info@eyebeam.org

NYC Patching Circle this Sunday 9/19, 3-8pm
Its that time again, time for a little Pd/Max patching. We are following up on previous Pd/Android work with an 0.1 release. So bring your Android phones and we'll have Pd apps ready for installing. We've tested on the G1, Droid, Nexus One, and Droid Incredible, but we are looking for a wide range of devices. Pd should run on any Android phone running Android 1.6 or newer.
Additionally, the libpd that was created for Pd/Android has also been ported to OpenFrameworks and Java. We are now looking for some intrepid Processing hackers to get Pd embedded into Processing.
We'll be at NYC Resistor this Sunday from 3-8pm.
