i'm having the same problem. i'm running mountain lion, pd vanilla and a novation x-station which serves as an all in one audio interface/MIDI controller - i have it a couple of years now and so far everything fine.

pd crashes whenever i try to open the MIDI preferences, but only if i have the x-station connected to it. if i disconnect it, open pd and then connect the x-station, pd does not see it anymore until i restart it again. i've read in the FLOSS manual that i should have the audio midi setup app open when trying to configure the midi device in pd. tried that too but didn't work.

any ideas what could be the issue?
