First, i had to get some stuff like automake and autoconf or so, then tcl and tk.. so far so good...

i start the installation with make install? it runs through... then it looks like gem then he aborts with error gl is missing, you need open gl

i have freeglut and other stuff which migt relates to open gl installed.

another question, is it possible to use pd extended without gem, because i dont think i will ever do anything with open gl in pd. how can i install pd extended from source without gem... i did go in the folder /packages/linux_make

i know synaptic, i actually like it... because you can also search the database when you are offline. so you can search all you need, then go find an open wlan and quickly install everything in a row :)

    i worked around it...

    first i did:

    apt-get install pd-extended

then i removed the cyclist via software center (you could probably also use apt-get for this)

then i went back to the terminal:
    dpkg -i /var/cache/apt/archives/pd-extended_0.43.1~20120926-1~quantal1_amd64.deb

so now pd is installed and starting... hopefully it also works

Recently I installed pd extended on a Ubuntu 12.04 machine using the pd installer i found at http://puredata.info/downloads/pd-extended
It installed without problems and works fine. I used the one for Maverick.
Why do you need compiling it?

this is not working. even if you get all the depencies... when you want to install, ubuntu gives warming about bad package, when you want to install either way, it will do so and then shortly befor the end stopp and give error, something about brocken pipe

unfortunatly also the autobuild is not working. is there no way to get pd installed on ubuntu 12.04. i have allready searched the internet for serveral days now. everybody complaining about the same problem, but no solution

when i want to compile pd extended the make install aborts with an error: at least one program is needed....

    edit:

now i got further and it start compiling, but after a while it canceled with error 1 and error 2

hmmm, i did compile pure data once on suse about 4 years ago and i did use pd extended on squeze but i switched to ubuntu for some reason. the ubuntu repositorys keep plenty of external librarys. i just dont want to go through the painfull process of compiling some of the nessesary depencies.

    thanks for your help

So, know i have again followed the instructions here... http://puredata.info/docs/developer/UbuntuMaverick

after so... apt-get uninstalled jackd and qjackctl as well as other stuff, also i have now even more depencies junk crap on my machine. compiling does not work

i dont need SliceJockey, fuck it

thanks, because i probably need to re install the laptop now because i did install so many depencies crap and messed up parts of the system

I will use the stuff that comes from the ubuntu synaptics package manager. whe i search there for pd, i get dozens of external librarys... All the stuff i do in pd works... this is the main priority for me...

sorry i am a little angry... i schould not have messed around with those depencies

i have the same problem, cant either compile pd sucessfull or use the maverick deb. i tryed but enbded up in an endless tree of depencies. after i installed the depencies, i had to install depencies for the depencies which again depend on other librarys which did need to get compiled for which again depencies where nesessary..

so now i have installed an compiled so much crap and depencies, i dont even know anymore which depencies i have compiled or installed and probably filled my clean machine with a bunch of depencies junk

the autobuild is not working either, can not open the link... the 0.43 beta / presice link is also not working

you have to be carefull with those realtime kernel i did use them a while and i have experienced compatibility issues with graphics card drivers for example... i have experienced some other compatitibillity issues which i have forgotten wich one they exactly where :)

i am currently using the normal ubuntu 12.04 lts installation not ubuntu studio with rt kernel and it is working fine. i cant tell any diffrents between the rt kernel and the normal one, tough jackd is configured for rt threads and i work itb only on an lenovo x121e with i3
