I've been messing around with Pd on my PC at work, and had no problem saving files and creating new folders etc. Now I have started using Pd on my Macs at home and the Pd folders seems so inaccessible. I tried to create my own folder in the resources folder but seems so clumsy. Then tried to copy samples into the sound folder but it seems protected and you have to authenticate before it allows this. i've always had a problem with file/folder navigation on Macs, but doe s anyone know how to disable this 'protection' thing that Pd seems to have in OSX?

Second thing is, I wanted to write a path to a sample somewhere else on the drive, but don't really understand how the path system works (with the ..'s and fwd slashes and all). I've read the Pd docu. but can't make sense of it (or at least it doesn't seem to work when i try it!

i've always just made folders directly on my hard disk. easier than messing round with directories.

my samples are all in /audio

my abstractions are on /abstractions

in path i just added /audio and /abstractions

easy peasy

In OSX (darwin)

Paths that start with / are from root so:
/Applications Is The applications folder which resides at the root level of your hard drive.

Paths that start with ~/ are in your userspace.. soo:
~/Documents is your documents folder. (/Users/XXXyouruserXXX/Documents)

OSX arranges .app packages so that they can be double-clicked. I think that's what you are talking about in the first part? What's inside the package is binaries, libraries, documentation, etc... I wouldn't put anything (other than binaries, libraries, etc.) inside the package, as it makes a bitch to upgrade. I like hardoff's way, but you could just as easily make a directory in your home directory called PD or whatever, and then more directories in there for abstractions, sounds, vids. then these would just be at; ~/PD/(Abstractions, sounds...) slightly more typing, but more organized maybe?

As far as Paths, the best way I've found to add paths is with a .plist editor. there's another post somewhere about this.

Thanks Guys! I think I'll try both and see what works best for me. In the meantime I'd better remove the things I had managed to save to the pd.app

I suppose I'll need to make copies of all the abstractions i use from the app too, such as output~ and those from the reference library.
