Has anyone written an external for using osx AU's in PD?
It would really make my day if anyone out there knows how to do this....

OSX Audio Units

i never really understood the difference between vst and au....except that you can download 7 zillion vst's for free, and only about 10 au's

(by the way, i bring much agression to the forum today...i have been drinking and abusing small animals...in future i will come with clarity and good ideas.....but as an osX user, i really fail to see the point of introducing an entirely new plugin system that doesn't agree with any other platform....and let's face it....one of the big advantages of pd is its platform interdependancy....fuck au and all that shit. the biggest drawback with osX is that it won't run the simple audio plugins that are available to everyone else. why not??? apple deliberately chose to maike osX vst incompatible in order to make a rift in the audio computer market. fuck them.)

Well, running VST isn't actually a problem on OSX, apart from in LOGIC, That I agree was a bloody minded attempt for apple to abuse it's ownership of emagic and jump start a new format.
But, as a format AU is actually much better in the long term. The main difference to me is that a VST effect is never truly mono, when you add a vst effect to a mono channel its just becoming mono again at its output stage, so in effect (no pun intended) it is processing all mono sources twice, which is a waste of cpu time for whenever you are dealing with mono inputs. If you take a look at the difference in CPU load in Logic when using a mono pluggin compared to a stereo one it is fairly big now, whereas in the old logic the difference between mono and stereo VST's was quite minimal. -
but you still have to get those "carbonated vst's"...you can't just run the normal over-the-counter vst's that our pc based friends can use.

very true...

so is there a way to build Audio Units from pd?
I own logic gold 6, and I'm starting to move from macos9 to 10, so I don't have much of a choice than using AUs... sorry
