i can't suggest anything better than your first idea. if you don't have an audio routing app, then i'd recommend soundflower from the cycling 74 site. it's free, and works really easily.
Since writing the first post I got this running in Bidule. Not sure what the latency is but it seems to work fine - sounded pretty tight to me.
then of course there's the option of trying to build a sid in pd itself. it's doable, but probably a bit of work.
I think the quadrasid is based on one of the emulators coded a few years back, and then some. A lot of work went into it....i think my main focus here is too make music heh heh
