My name is James, I am relatively new to pure data, and just recently my copy has stopped working - of course my first reaction was to look online at various fixes, to which I concluded the problem must be the saved state function on Mac OSX 10.8.2 messing with the loadup of PD-extended. I then attempted to find the saved state file(s) within User/Library/Saved Application State/ to no avail. I also tried removing PD-extended and reinstalling a new version, the same problem happens. I would prefer not to reinstall my entire OS just because of a silly problem like this, any thoughts?

"stopped working" is not a helping definition of the problem. Say more details about what you do, expect and happens.

Anyway, see what happens if you delete the files
~/Library/Preferences/org.puredata.*

I'm sorry for the terminology - When I click either the PD-extended icon in the dock, it bounces once and then exits completely. I have attempted numerous variations of this, navigating to the original PD-extended file, attempting to open PD documents, etc, none of which has worked. I have also attempted to find the org.puredata files in /Preferences/, and they appear to be absent. I am running version 10.8.2 of OSX.

I do apologise, I was looking in the wrong Library folder... I found and deleted them, and the problem still reoccurs.

Oh, never mind. The problem seems to have resolved itself somehow. I will keep this thread open just in case anything goes wrong again. I think its just because I closed PD with windows open and screwed the save state files... oh well.

Yeah, the issue is back... any help? I tried deleting pure data files in both /saved application state/ and /preferences/ and restarting my mac a couple of times, it will bounce a few times on the dock and then exit. PLEASE HELP!

I have managed to get pure data to work using the following fix:

so long as my phone is tethered as a bluetooth internet device to my macbook, it allows puredata to start, load up files, perfectly, however it shows the following error message on startup:

(Tcl) UNHANDLED ERROR: no files matched glob pattern "*.*"
while executing
"glob -directory $savedstatedir -type f -- *.*"
("uplevel" body line 11)
invoked from within
"uplevel #0 $tclcode"FAILED TO LOAD /Users/Tocher/Library/Pd/lion-saved-state-crash-fix-plugin.tcl

I have absolutely no idea why this works, or what the error message means, but at least I now know how to get it up and running.

p.s. the fix ONLY works with bluetooth, it does not work for wi-fi.

The error is that pd-extended NOT puredata have failed to load the "fix" code at the specific path. You should change the file's permission to allow all read & write (& execute maybe). Maybe this is why the "fix" did not workout for you.

I'm having the same problem here. OSX 10.9.2. MacBook Pro Mid 2010.
I was trying to change the audio preferences in PD when it hanged.
I have deleted saved application files but could'n restart PD ever again. The app icon keeps bouncing on my dock.
any ideas? thanks.

EDIT: I trashed preferences and got PD back again!

Hey people, PD does not worked in my imac when I did the actualization to "el capitan". But after many, many searches, finally it works, I just follow the steps in this link http://osxdaily.com/2014/04/12/restore-original-hosts-file-mac/ And it works, i have Pd Again!!!!! ps: Sorry for my English, I am from Colombia and, just trying to learn. I hope it works for you too.
