But i've got severals issues with the multichannel.

All the drivers are OK, and i can play a sound on each speaker from the little interface provided with the drivers.

But i can't do it from PureData. In the audio settings I choose ASIO and I select the "USB multichannel interface", and i put "8" channels. then i create an dac~1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 but it didn't works. Sometimes all the speakers plays, sometimes juste the half part...

I was wondering if maybe I had to "encode" the 8 channels in a stereo output (i don't know maybe there is a method to do this with the dolby digital), and then the soundcard will do the opposite on her own to recover the 8 channels...

Exactly one year later, I am in the same boat!

I just purchased the same 7.1 USB sound card, and so far, I can only get sound out of the headphones output and the "front speaker 2.1" output. I, too, assumed multiple dac~ inlets would automatically route to the various StarTech outputs, but no, not yet.

I just plugged it in today - I was amazed that the headphones and front speakers worked immediately! - but I was wondering if you (or anyone else) ever had any luck with the other outputs.

It works now! I don't know why, but the next time I tried it, it worked fine. I've used it multiple times since then.

So, if anyone is wondering whether or not a cheap USB 7.1 surround-sound card will work with PD under Linux, and they google upon this one-sided conversation, know ye this:

Yes! It CAN work!

For at least five days, but what a glorious five days they've been.

I actually had been using this USB soundcard on a different computer recently (my post is from two years ago!), but I just brought it back to this old Linux laptop to figure it out.

It still works! And, furthermore, I've changed OS's since that last post (same old computer, currently Lubuntu 12.04). So I was bringing it in afresh.

The things I had to do were:

1. Go into Jack to change "output device" to "hw: 1,0" (Jack told me that was the USB device - it was in the "more options" right-arrow > not the drop-down few choices),

2. change the number of output channels in PD's Audio Settings to 8.

Hello! Researching about a project that I want to do in PD, I stumbled upon this thread where you say that you could use a StarTech soundcard and control its eight channels through PD. Reading that, I'm deciding to buy the sound card. However, I have a question that I would like you to answer, if you have time and you are willing to help me.
I want to know if the selection of the soundcard disables the "normal output" of the computer, or if you can have in total 10 channels: 8 from the soundcard and 2 from the computer.

I bought the same sound card recently and saw your. Just wondering how you make it driven by ASIO while it has its own driver? I use adobe audition and no speaker showed up when I chose the interface to be "ASIO".
