Hi everyone,

I'm trying to get started with Gem. It seems to be working, except I've noticed a strange issue. When launching a Gem window on os x, an application labeled "pd" with no icon shows up in the dock, which I assume is Gem's display application. However, when I destroy the window, "pd" remains in the dock, and becomes unresponsive. I'd like to figure this out, as it is eating up CPU. I'm on a spring-2010 Macbook Pro 15" with OS X 10.6.8.

As far as I know, this is just something you have to deal with on OSX. I would usually get that extra Pd icon when Pd-extended started up.

How does the cpu compare before it comes up? Most of my OSX cpu issues had to do with the audio engine, and JackOSX pretty much took care of it.

Actually, checking again, the CPU issue doesn't seem to be so bad. I don't mind the existence of the extra icon. I'm more concerned at the fact that the pd icon (the one for gem) becomes unresponsive once a gemwin is killed. Is that normal? A command-option-escape shows that the application isn't responding.

It's been mentioned on the list before, and it is normal. I can't remember if the devs know why it's there or not, but it's not something you should worry about.
