Hi guys,

I am quite new to PD and have started to take a look at Andy Farnell's examples as I bought the book. A lot of the patches do not load up properly and I do get a lot of error messages that objects and other things cannot be created. It gives me a code which can be used for backward compatability, but I cannot get it to work.

This happens to most of the patches from his website. Are they just all out of there, or am I doing something wrong?

For a backwards-compatible version, use [cyclone/pow~]

Tried to replace with no luck.

Also, when I press DIO I get this message:

I know this is basic stuff but kinda feel stuck.

Do you know what version of Pd is used in Farnell's book? If it's a Pd-vanilla version or Pd-extended 0.42, then the [pow~] error can be ignored. The "new" [pow~] is just the vanilla version (the inlets are switched, iirc). Previously, vanilla objects were overwritten when external libraries were loaded, but that should no longer be the case. You will see that "error" every time an instance of [pow~] is created, whether it's the right or wrong version. It should really be a warning, not an error.

The Audio I/O stuff is not patch-related, but I've never really experienced them, so I don't know how to deal with them.

I guess he used vanilla when he did the examples, but I haven't checked it out yet.
I run 0.42 extended, but I can hear that a lot of the sound examples are not as they were ment to sound.

I checked his WAV file for thunder, and then rann his code. Sounds totally different. The patch is digital and glitchy, while the WAV is smooth and almost realistic... Kinda confused why. Bubbles, jet engines i.e sound awsome on the other hand. Is that just how the patches were designed?

Will look into the I/O issue, but kinda hard when it just gives me "unknown" as error ;P
