Hey, I am looking to do some composition on pd, but I'm quite new to it. I have made some nice synthesisers and sequenced a nice melody with a qlist, but I was wondering if there was any way to have 2 different qlists running together, one for a melody, one for a bass part. If its not possible to have more than one running, (which would surprise me) what is a good alternative?

Sure, you can have as many [qlist]s as you want. If you're into working with MIDI files, there's also [mrpeach/midifile] and the simpler [cyclone/seq].

Thanks dude, I'll dive in with qlists. I just didn't want to get stuck in a rut which I didn't do as I wanted. Thanks for clearing it up!

Hey, sorry, forgive my ignorance, but I have been trying to get a few qlists going on at once, but I am stumped by the recievers. I don't really understand how to keep a qlist from interfering with others and their respective recievers. I have got a message box with a midi sequence typed up into it going into a qlist, then a pitch reciever (r pch) going into a mtof and so on, but I don't know how to continue with a second reciever.

If you want the sequences to go to different [receive]s, then they are just going to have to have different [receive] names.

Yeah I get that, but I don't understand how to assign the qlists to go to specific recievers... Sorry, I don't think I explained my predicament too well.

Mmm... I'm thinking if you post a patch with two [qlist]s showing how you are trying to do it now, it might be easier explain how to fix it.

Hey, sorry for the late reply.

In its most fundamental form, this is what I am trying to do:

I want the 2 qlists to control the 2 respective number boxes, but I don't know how to create recievers specific to the qlist.

As you can obivously see, the patch I have made isn't going to work, as they both control each other.

When you add messages to [qlist], they are in the format <delay> <receivename> <message>. The delay time is optional, but if the added message starts with a number, it will be considered the delay time. The next one is the <receivename>, and that's what you need to change. pch and vol are both [receive] names, and you need to change them in one of the [qlist] messages. So, if you take the one on the right and change pch to pch2 and change [r pch] to [r pch2], there won't be any cross-talk.

Oh god, I just totally misunderstood the operation of a qlist. Got my patch working now though, so thank you very much good sir
