Beginner trying things out.

I have a bang connected to a message box in which I entered a number. The output of the message box is connected to a number box. When I click the bang, the number in the message box is passed to the number box that then displays it, very very simple.

Now I want this number box to change color when it receives the number. I found this thread on the forum but I don't understand it...

There are two number boxes in Pd. If you look in the Put menu, there is Number and Number2 (you can also create Number2 by making the object [nbx]). [nbx] has more GUI options, one of which is that you can change its color. If you open its helpfile, there is a subpatch called [pd edit]. Open that patch, and you can see all the ways to manipulate it using messages. The other GUI objects, like [hslider], [tgl], etc., should have that [pd edit] in their helpfiles as well.
