A new GUI for PD/Desiredata to download
-
Yeah, Chun and the goto10 guys are doing an amazing job of this with loads of obvious and not so obvious improvements to the Pd GUI. When it is mature I will probably ditch the vanilla pd-gui for desiredata frontend because it's obviously going to be so much more productive.

Its not just 'the look' either there are loads of improvements that will make use allot easier imo
much has been made of PD not being much of a looker but to be fair I believe that all PD is is a blank canvas ..you can have all sorts of colorfull bangs, toggels, sliders-you just need to use imagination and design something that looks good
...saying that Ive always had a thing for the toolbar in jamx (I wont mention the other max) and could never guess why there wasnt one in PD
...have you tried using it?

i havent been able to get it to install. its still beta. but i was told by the developer that it will be version 2.x.x soon(not sure how soon) cause it will skip version 1 all together

I DESIRE DESIRE DATA!
-
are goto10 developing desiredata? i didn't know that... hopefully they implement it into pure:dyne, which i believe is coming along quite nicely (although i haven't updated it since build18... <shrugs>)
-
Actually its Canadian Mathieu B who seems to be carrying a lot of the work, and Chun lee is creating loads of cool GUI code, I'm not sure who else is involved. Yeah, I expect pure:dyne will incorporate this, but I'm waiting for it to settle a bit (especially adopting the full pd-extended ) before switching over to it for development.

hi all! accidentally found this post just now and thought i will quickly say hi=) and say a few words about desiredata too.
desiredata is a joint effort of Mathieu Bouchard (http://artengine.ca/matju/) and me (goto10). and so far, matju has been doing most of the work on the server side and the infrastructure (ie, the objective tcl system in the client) while i implement stuff for the new client. and, actually, its not event in beta yet, its still in the pre release stage the latest one being pre5.
there is currently a irc channel for talking about dd on irc.freenode.net channel #desiredata. please feel free to drop by and talk/suggest things.
one important thing is that dd is *not* just about the new gui/look. the new gui/look is kind of like the by product of what we have done (and unfortunately the most visible part). i mean, dd is still a blank canvas but with the difference that as a user, its more flexible to use and one can use it the way you like. also, you don't have to use dd with gui if you don't want to.
hum, that's more than a few words....;)
cheers
chun
ps. yes, i would def imagine that one dd is useable/stable, it will be in pure:dyne

Laserbeak said something about version 2, but that's because he's confusing GridFlow and DesireData. GridFlow has version 0.8, version number 1 will be skipped, version 2 is in the plans, and it involves migrating away from Ruby and towards Tcl.
-
Chun, ObjectiveTcl is supposed to be called PoeTcl nowadays. (there was another older project named ObjectiveTcl that is quite similar).
PoeTcl basically implements a Ruby-like object system on top of plain Tcl in 100-200 lines of pure Tcl code, no C. The fact that it has been possible to do that in Tcl, has impressed me much.
