Hello All. I am wondering if this can be done...or if someone here can refer me to a musician/mathematician who can help with this experiment!

Can we map the golden ratio/phi numbers of a face and then create a short musical score by applying the individual's personal golden ratio code to music. A musical self portrait! Wouldn't it be interesting to compose "personal songs" using unique symmetrical facial structure?

I downloaded this software called Phi Matrix which maps the golden ratio code in a photo, but I do not have the skills to apply the music. You can download the software at phimatrix.com and use it for free for 14 days.

I came up with this Musical Self-Portrait idea to give as a birthday gift for a friend. He is a mathematician and will really appreciate this concept. The coordinates I got using PhiMatrix on his photo are:

Wow Obiwannabe! That's excellent! Thank you. In my research I found that music composed using the golden mean ratios sounds to the ordinary ear...well...strange. My firend is...in the nicest way...also a bit strange...so I was hoping he wouldn't notice! Perhaps we are somehow attracted to our own symmetrical vibration? I noticed you read in two tables at once, that's new to me.

But I can't really hear the pitch relations inherent in phi^n , you know why - there just aren't enough of them (only three work) the series grows too quickly. Afaics the way to get the scale would be to *multiply* a value by phi, multiply the result by phi...etc iteratively to get the scale, because phi is already a ratio.

yeah, but you should turn off [mtof] and you'll get more pitches, plus hertz are more fundamental than midi numbers.

The problem with phi as a scale ratio is that it grows too quickly.

Only the first 10 iterations are musically useful. It doesn't matter if you use the reciprocal (period) as a delay time or whether you shift your scale by a linear offset, the order of growth is still too high. There are many so called scales derived from other formula like sqrt(phi), but to be honest they are not musically useful as scales either, I think they are really just mathematical curiosities. I've listened to "music" made with such methods and it's disappointing to say the least. In fact, has anybody got links to any music based on phi scales (with a proper documentation of its methodology) that actually sounds any good? From my limited and humble observations people seem to get hung up on "magic" numbers and their quasi-mystical properties without really giving consideration to whether there is practical utility there.
