Just stumbled onto PD the other day - had never heard of the program until very recently. Although I have superficially messed around with Cakewalk and Reason, I am, actually, more into analogue than really into the digital age (attempting to get a simple modular system up and running). But PD seems quite interesting and am willing to give it a try. Found some interesting tutorials on the web and some good literature.

I have downloaded the most recent version, but must say that I have already encontered difficulties. Now for the absolute cretin question of the day - how do I install the program? I can't even find an exe. file? Or where its located (if, that is, there is an exe. file to be installed).

Incidentally, which sections of this forum should I begin reading? There seems to be a massive amount of info here, but I beginning to cringe just by the number of postings!

Any help will be gladly appreciated!

Thanks! Yes, I did begin to read the on-line tutorial even before getting the program and did like it very much - very simple, straightforward - one of the reasons I decided to try my hand at this. But even after reading the introductory pages, I still didn't really understand how to install PD. But will read the kind suggestions here sent and will submit my questions during the process. You probably downloaded the wrong installation file.

All of the present versions can be seen here: http://puredata.info/downloads/

From which, I assume you will need a Windows installer, which you can also directly download via the following link: http://downloads.sourceforge.net/pure-data/Pd-0.42.5-extended-windowsxp-i386.exe

I agree with ShankarBaba, probably you have the wrong install file. It should be trivial to install and it is amazingly flaw-less, given the breadth of its application.

So don't feel shy to ask for help.

I recommend you uninstall and delete everything and re-do a full install and ask us if you need help.
