I want to recall a specific index which I have stored in a [coll]. I tried using a simple "refer" message present in the help file to no avail. I was told no method was present. Am I better off using a table for this? Any help would be very much appreciated.

Just send it the index number. But if you're just storing one number per index, it might be easier to just use a table. [coll] is better suited for sorting, say, a list per index.

Wait, is this [coll] from cyclone or somewhere else? I don't see refer in the help file.

I'm storing two numbers per index number. MIDI note and associated velocity. The [coll] object is from cyclone, as far as I'm aware. The "refer" message is located in the sub-patch named "PD problems" located on the left hand side. I've tried sending the index number to the [coll], but I haven't had much luck unfortunately. I want to be able to recall MIDI information at any given point by randomising the index number that i created by a counter. I can upload the patch if needs be? Thanks for your help in advance.

Edit: I have the patch working by using another instance of the [coll]. I am curious if the "refer" message works. Cheers!

Hmm...I'm not so sure why you need the refer message here. This would only be to dynamically change associations between [coll]s. The argument for [coll] isn't just to load a file, as the help file suggests. It also associates [coll]s, so if two [coll] have the same argument, they will share the same contents and update each other. But I think you'd be okay with static associations, if you even need them. I can't really tell by the video (which is cool, by the way) if this is what you actually mean by another instance of [coll].

I'm not sure why you're having problems just sending an index number. It works fine for me. Maybe the attached patch might clarify some things?

Thanks for the patch. Very helpful. I have everything working the way that I want it with static associations of the [coll], I was just intrigued by the "refer" message and if I could get it working. I want to do a little more with this patch in the next few weeks and then I can upload it with a video to get some feedback. It is essentially a mapping strategy in conjunction with Live to reflect musical gesture in real-time performance.
