For an upcoming installation we want to show multiple streaming outputs from different camera's placed all over a very big manufacturing plant onto one screen (or combined on multiple screens?). I was wondering if this can easily be done with pd? I suppose this must be something that gem can handle or should we look more into other software (vvvv?) We could use either pc or mac, so is it better to go for one of those platforms or doesn't that really matter?

I've heard that GEM can handle multiple cameras.

Was there ever anything born out of this? I am interested in solving a similar problem for an exhibition. I have been reading some interesting posts about hardware limitations with multiple cameras but have not found anything corroborating this.

it works fine with unibrain fire-i firewire webcams. i did it with 4 daisychained cams under windows. but you will have to use the generic driver, not the shipped one.

What's generic driver?
Let's do an example: I have 4 dv-cams (sony, canon...) linked to a FW-hub.
How can I receive into GEM the 4 different sources and how can I have a Gemwin with a 4-cams-view (the Gemwin divided into 4 angles like a 4-split-screen, a surveillance monitor http://www.systemswinners.com.sg/v1/images/IPCamSurveillanceMonitorMain.jpg)?
Which objects can I use?
Could I use IP-cams instead of DV-cams?
