I don't know much about filter theory, so maybe someone else can explain this better, but I do know that resonance is accomplished with feedback. So perhaps the Q setting involves some resonance, and a Q of 1000 is pretty damn high. Someone else posted a while ago that [bp~] and [vcf~] sound a little different (ichabod I think?). If it makes a difference, I duplicated your example with [vcf~] and found that it doesn't resonate as long. Also, if you're just looking to get one frequency out of a signal, it's possible that you could to this with FFT and not get the feedback.
