Hi everybody,

I made a big and nice patch for live sessions. The only problem I'm encountering concerns the sounds loading.
As I'm playing several samples, I want to load other files and each time as I'm loading the new sound, all the other sounds stop to play.
In fact, I think there's some kind of loose of memory during the process and the other sounds can't continue to play?
Does anybody have an idea of the problem and how to solve it?

hey hummm, maybe it would be good to uplad the patch and tell us, what kind of samples you load.
i tried to check this out with 3 tabplay~ objects but i had no problems loading drumloops into the 3 arrays. worked pretty fine.

The patch I made has been previously uploaded in your post concerning Morphine.
I don't have problems to load sounds in tabplay~ objects. I have problems when they are playing and in same time, when I want to load new sounds in these arrays.
Then, as an openpanel windows is opened, the sound is muted and when I choose my sound and close the openpanel window, the sound comes back...

From what I can understand PD is not multi-threaded. That means that as it's loading a sound file onto an array it will block all other executions since reading a file from disc is slow relative to signal processing.

You can try using readsf~ which plays the file as it reads it. Or you can try preloading all the sound files you will use before playing.

That's the problem. I'm using a whole bunch of sounds and I'm just a little worried if I have to prelaod all of them.

this is, what i meant... this works to me in the patch i uploaded some posts ago. i have three arrays, every array read by a tabplay~. when e.g. two tabplays are running, and i load a loop into the 3rd array in the meanwhile, i don't have any problems with stopping sound.

I still have this problem even with yours, particulary when I'm loading big soundfiles...
Maybe is it due to my computer and insufficient memory?

It would be more related to the harddrive's bus. The faster the computer can get the file onto memory the better. What kind of computer do you use Toxonic? Do you know if the harddrive uses a SCSI or SATA bus?

One thing I did notice though is that with the newest version of PD (0.40.3 I think) loading file's onto array's has gotten much faster. Can anyone confirm this?

i use an old fujitsu amilo notebook with centrino 1,7 ghz and 512 mb (!!!) ram *lol*..... but yes - the hardrive uses sata.
