I am a relative noob to PD. I need to have a sample that is an array to play when I hit my midi controller keys. If I play middle C, i want the sound to play at its regular rate. If I play a C an octave above then the sound should play at twice as fast of its original speed. If I play a C an octave below then the sample or sound in the array should play twice as slow. How do i do that?

By the way I have to have a poly synth working with this, so i'm pretty sure that all this should take place in a subpatch, but I could be wrong.

The attached patched is a simple way of playing back samples at speeds corresponding to MIDI notes. There's no envelopes or loop points, though, but it should get you going.

[poly] is probably what you want to manage polyphony. Check out D11.sampler.poly.pd and D12. sampler.bis.pd in the audio examples of the help browser for a demonstration on [poly], as well as a more convoluted sampler than what I gave you.

I'd be interested to know about the exhibit, too, if you don't mind elaborating. I haven't experienced much sound art, but I am growing curious about it and how artists are using Pd (or sound in general) in installations.

Well this is just something a friend and i are doing for a local gallery.

The exhibition is about re-using garbage. So we've found a computer, and are using keyboards as kind of "guitar" controls. So it will be possible for a "band" to play(2 guitars, bass, drums)

We're calling it "gutterhero"
