Hi people, I'd like to learn how to layer canvases (So I can make coloured backgrounds with objects on top) and also how to put UI objects into boxes which on the first layer don't appear to be hooked up to anything... So I can make a nice and tidy interface.

Here's a very simple patch that we can make one to.

I created it to help me with my trumpet playing. I practice reproducing what I hear (from pd) as accurately as possible on the mouthpiece thus improving pitching and tonality.

Anyway, I'd like the time till next note, number of notes played, volume, and on/off switch to look lovely, while the grub runs in the background.

I still don't understand how you began... create canvas object, tick graph on parent, e.t.c.

that's the first step. you get a little red box in your patch when you do that, anything in that box appears in the parent window.

Aha! not quite, you have to create a subpatch the conventional way (i didn't realise this) i.e. [pd subpatch], then within there, right-click on some empty space and tick BOTH 'graph on parent' and 'hide object name and arguments' then you get an nice clean box for you to put your warez into.

you can also save a patch in a path you specify in path in the file menu, and then call it up as an object. mypatch.pd in /home/sunji/Desktop/specifiedpath/ allows me to use [mypatch].
