Hey all -

I'm back again, and trying to do some basic procedural sound using midi. The problem is that I don't seem to be allowed to use midi on my Mac. I'm running PD v. 0.40.3-extended. Under my midi control panel, my only choice for midi output is "none". Is there a setting I can change so that I can get midi output through my speakers? Does anyone know how to fix this?

Maybe I'm stating something you already know, but just to make sure.
You cannot hear midi.
It's a protocol driving something else which will produce audio.
You can connect audio to speakers, but not midi.

ok...I can have the wavetable synthesizer create midi output for the speakers.

I am able to make this work under Windows, but I don't get why it won't work on my OS X machine...

ASFAIK, osx doesn't work like that(anymore?). Windows has a built in wavetable synth, like OS9 did. I'm pretty sure you'll need to route midi to a syntheses application to make any noise. You can do this within OSX I think, but I've also used midipipe in the past.

You need to go into Utilities, Audiomidi Setup, and make sure that your IAC (InterApplicationMidi) is online. Double click it and make sure IAC is ticked as being online.
If you launch pd you should get the options in your midi prefs,
