Matt, you can indeed use this:

[number\But if find this rather inacturate, unless your tapping is as steady as a metro object. That's why i created a version which gives an average over 6 taps. So you'll need at least tap 6 times before a useable result, but then the result is more steady than the classical approach.

maybe alternatively you can take a look at this one, works with an average of 4 taps.

How to reset 4_tap.pd patch then it is not used for some time. I tap it and it is cool that it's not show time immediately, but when i play I may want it to use for the next synchronization too, and usually I don't know how many bangs left to complete the cycle of taps to get time.
