I am new to GEM and have wirtten a video player wit hsome effects on it. I would like to record, or export, or render the video with the effects on it. I am on a G4 running OSX 10.4. I understand there is a pix_record object, but you need pidip and pdp to run it, which will not work on OSX. Is there any way to write a video file (no need for audio), or do I have to use a screen capture method and put up with fuzzy resolution?

HI, I just checked [pix_record] on a MacBook Pro Leopard and Pure Data 0.40.3 and it worked fine. No need for pdp or whatever.
The only thing is that it seems to fragilize Pure Data which tends to crash if you don't respect an order of process : when your patch is done 1) activate the GEM window, 2) precise the wanted codec to [pix_record] (I used photo jpeg), 3) give the name/path of the file you want to record on, 4) activate recording [record 1( and a [metro 40] to record @ 25 fps.

thanks for the info. I'm running PD .39 extended and can't get it the object to work. Good to know that someone has gotten it to. Does it just ouput stills, or can it output a .mov file (or something like .mov)?

It outputs .mov files that you can use easily then with other softs.
Be aware that you have to create the gemwindow and activate rendering in order to make [pix_record] running correctly.
Unfortunately, I must say that I did not succeed to make it work under PD 0.39.3 extended on my MacBook Leopard.
Perhaps you could try a PD upgrade...
