How can I reduce de cpu processing of the Macbook to optimise my Live work in real time with audio and video?

Is there the possibility to control the I/O vector size and signal vector size like in DSP status of Max/MSP?

PD/GEM needs more cpu processing than Max/MSP/jitter?

Kill unneeded processes,
Use "nice" to tweak priority,
Use "top" to see what's going on,
Consider running realtime mode (beware)

so would

$ sudu nice -20 pd

put pd at the highest priority? Is this done after launch or before?

Before. A running application is modified with "renice".

I found that using JackPilot I can decrease a lot of cpu processing!

I second that. The difference is incredible. If you're concerned with CPU usage, and you use a Mac. Then you must use Jack as your audio bus. Cheers.

I third that. Just use it all the time now. Plus you get the flexible bussing to boot.

my little synth got from 15 % cpu (without) to 2 % (with jack)....really nice

and still no crashes after that....
