Hi,

I'm new to PD, using it as part of my uni course.
It's been running perfectly well for a while but I just got a new Mac, installed PD exactly as I did before, I now get no audio.
The test audio feature works fine and I can hear it clearly, however even a simple osc object into a dac produces no audio output.
The very first time I launched PD on the new Mac and turned on DSP I got an audio I/o error message, so I checked my settings, everything is set to the only available ins and outs (the built in ones) which should be correct.
I've never had the error pop up again since, but still get no audio.

Any help would be appreciated!

@rjp9 Thanks for quick reply. Sorry away from the Mac at the moment so can't post a screen cap.
They seem to be how I'd expect them. Both the input and output have one option being the built in mic and speakers. Both boxes are checked too.

Can you post a patch that's giving you trouble? Maybe there's something wrong on the patch side of things

@gav_hood Set your input 1 number of channels from "0" to "2" like output device number of channels and hit "OK"

@gav_hood I am confused. I checked your patch and it works fine. You're saying that you get sound from the test audio section, but not your patch? Can you try just a simple test within your patch like connecting an [osc~ 440] to your [dac~]?

Also, check your audio preferences on OS X:

Ok, an osc~ 440 to dac~ works! As does replacing the notein etc with metro. Thank you very much for your help. What exactly was the issue causing the error? I actually wasn't using any midi at all and thought just clicking the bang would generate the audio

@gav_hood Since your [* ~] right below your [ead~] object is an audio rate object (meaning it has a tilde ~ at the end), it doesn't store values like a non audio rate object would {e.g. [* ], [+ ], [/ ], etc.) because all its inlets are "hot"--if that makes any sense. In other words, the result of your [/ 127] division does not get stored in the right inlet of your [* ~]. Therefore, unless [* ~] receives a non zero number from both inlets simultaneously (e.g. if you only hit that bang above [ead~]), then your output will be zero (no sound), since you are multiplying by zero.

@gav_hood Here's another way to look at it:

You omit an argument from {* ~] if you want to modulate an audio rate signal with another audio rate signal. You use an argument if you want to perform math on a single audio rate signal (e.g. amplitude scaling etc.)
