Synopsis;

"Axon" is a collaborative project that began life as a series of recorded guitar improvisations. These initial recordings provide the main source materials used in the fixed media element of the piece. Throughout the creative process the guitar and tape have been involved in a continual loop of mutual influence. Due to this working method we discovered that the line between the the composer and the performer became continually blurred and resulted in what we believe to be a truly collaborative piece that follows a combined creative vision. "Axon" was written by Michael Andrews and Ricky Graham.

I really enjoyed listening to your track. It reminds a small amount of some Fripp and Eno stuff. The sound quality is great and the composition is well thought out.

You mention that it started as a improvised piece, but, just out of curiosity, could it be performed live with loops?

Hi Alberto,

The first series of meetings involved the recording of a series of solo electric guitar improvisations with the Pd system. The collaborating composer (Michael Andrews - SARC) then developed the improvised parts, compositionally speaking, in to a tape part which provides a great deal of the tonal "impressions" or textures. The final part of this process involved the completion of the live electric guitar parts which I will perform at the PD CON tomorrow in Weimar. Each guitar string is treated like an independent voice, and is processed both in terms of spatialisation and granulation. I'm excited to perform it tomorrow (also a little nervous too - it will be only the third time I have performed it in public).
