I'm looking at pd to get familiar with data flow programming in preparation for (potential, so far un-materialized) teaching jobs in the future -- don't care to spend $500+ for MSP when I don't see myself using it for production in the foreseeable future!

I'm looking for an object that's basically a signal-rate integrator, where the next output sample value is the previous value + the input signal. Ideally it could reset to zero on receipt of a bang, but if that isn't possible, I can work around it using some snapshot magic. (Or, if it loops back to start when it reaches a certain output value, I can work with that too.)

I searched the forum and found only this, but this is for purely control signals: http://puredata.hurleur.com/sujet-2402-bouncing-counter - I need it at audio rate for tabread4~.

Sorry if this is too basic a question -- searching the help is a bit less than convenient.

Thanks
I've badgered you on a few occasions over at the sc forum

You've a few options in pd to drive [tabread4~]. Are you just wanting to index the table, or have i misunderstood?

For the intergrator, I think you can do this with [biquad] fiter and feeding it the right coefficients. See:
http://lists.puredata.info/pipermail/pd-list/2006-08/040629.html

Have you investigated [vline~] ? It takes a message comprising a start value, target value and duration. One disadvantage is changing the rate mid flow is tricky.

Another option is [phasorshot~] in pd extended. This is quite cool as its loopable or one shot, and can change rate or direction...

Whats it for specifically?

hope this helps you

Thanks for the hints. I ended up using phasorshot~ because I did want the rate to be variable. The trick is that I wanted to play only a portion of the file while controlling playback rate separately; changing the start or end points shouldn't make the audio play faster or slower. Finally I found threshold~ and I could use its trigger bang to reset the phase.

Actually it was a little more involved because I wanted to bounce between a pair of buffer readers with an envelope on each, for a rudimentary crossfade. (Just because I'm toying with an unfamiliar tool, doesn't mean I should settle for bad audio engineering.)

Interesting stuff -- I like sc better, but just from browsing around the forum, I can see I shouldn't be too quick to judge pd -- there are layers to pd that will probably be hidden from my sight for quite awhile

Between platforms a lot of the basic rules apply, they're just implemented in a slightly different way.

I guess its one of those code vs visual code things, but also its approach to tackling the same problem. I like sc too, particularly with regard to spawning SynthDefs and polyphony - it makes sense. But I find i get into an idea and get stuck when i hit a brick wall, because my knowledge peaters out Thats when I do it in Pd - I guess its the way my brain works. SC has a lot of depth, and it is very elegant, efficient and good quality... But things like the Environment and the number of methods to learn for the wealth of objects is mind boggling. I s'pose its like anything - you give it time and it opens doors.

I'm still discovering stuf in Pd like dynamic patching
