Quick sanity check for myself -- do cyclone and zexy need to be added to preferences > startup, or only to the search paths?

I vaguely remember the rule is -- if the externals are bundled into one binary file, e.g. zexy.pd_linux, cyclone.pd_linux, Gem.pd_linux, then the directory needs to go into "startup." If they are separate binaries per external, then "path" is enough.

I'm writing installation instructions for a class. Just checking to make sure I get it right (and avoid unnecessary steps).

For single binary libraries you need both the path and startup, or you can [declare] them, first -path and then -lib.
