I found out that in fact the parent patch goes into edit mode because I'm also clearing and resizing a subpatch inside the abstraction, without the subpatch it doesn't. In both cases, [editmode 0( doesn't seem to make a difference in the patent patch. editmode.zip
I wonder why this is and if it can be avoided.

To perform them on an otherwise hidden subpatch, it is required to send [vis 1( before the other commands and [vis 0( afterwards. This happens instantly, so the patch is not actually visible. This can also help here: abstraction.pd
But unfortunately this makes the transition less smooth. Also worth noting that the problem doesn't seem to appear in Pd 0.48.1.

I think coords only works when GOP is already enabled, or at least it accepts a different message if it's not. If you save an empty patch, and look it up in a text editor with and without GOP, the coords line at the end is of different lengths.
Perhaps donecanvasdialog is more "universal" in that sense, even though I've read in the Pd list that in recent PD versions, in place of the number 2 which usually meant GOP with hidden name and arguments, now number 3 has to be used. I can't link to the list but the thread is called "Donecanvasdialog changed?"
