<![CDATA[Should I go with pd on this project?]]>Hi All,

All new here and haven't touched pd for a while, trying to determine if I should go with PD on the following project:

I have some data from a accelerometer arriving via OSC. The accelerometer is mounted at the top of the rope on a children's swing. I wanna find "peaks" on one of the axis' and generate a beep/sound every time there´s a peak. Now when I say a peak I mean when the swing is set in motion in one direction, levels out and reverses. Depending on the entusiasme of the person on the swing the peaks will of course have a varying amplitude :)

Is pd the way to go?

Yes, Pd is an "easy to understand and program" solution.
I am not sure that a beep will be what you are looking for though.
You will be looking for the moment when there is no data..... no acceleration.... as the swing stops moving.... or.... as you say..... changes direction. That should be possible. The change of direction should be easy to spot.
But if I remember correctly from school the principle property of a swing, or pendulum, is that its time from peak to peak is always constant. That is probably why they were used in clocks.

So you might be more interested in making a sound that reflects the angle of the swing, or the acceleration between the peaks...... and then the beep with a pitch that depends on that intermediate data.
