GUI aesthetics design problem in Pure Data ?
The one on the right is MUCH more readable, since the contrast between the text and background color is higher.
The one on the left could work if the text in the top two sections was lighter-- I do like the idea of separating sections based on colors.

PureData Multitouch
Hello,
I'd like to share some abstractions that enable multitouch in pd patches (linux only, for now).
I have updated the documentation about it. You can now check the readme.md file and the pdf docs (in french & in google-translated-english).
https://github.com/jyg/multitouch
I have a lenovo T440s laptop running linux. I would appreciate if someone else could try on a different hardware setup.
Thanks in advance for your feedback !

Ubuntu 18, how to update Gem?
@whale-av "But you might need some libraries installed too....... README.linux ..... ?
The readme is from an older attempt at 0.94, but there is a bit about libraries for some video formats."
Aha... I did find, then, that pix_film also failed to load mp4 files. That was resolved by the following:
aptitude install libgl-dev libglu-dev
aptitude install libxxf86vm-dev
aptitude install ftgl-dev
aptitude install libtiff3g-dev libjpeg62-dev libmagick++9-dev
aptitude install libmpeg3-dev libavifile-0.7-dev libquicktime-dev libdv4-dev
Then make clean, ./autogen.sh, ./configure, make.
But that didn't fix the pix_video problem.
At this point I'll take it to the Gem bug tracker. I follow the given build instructions and at least one feature is missing, which is at least a documentation bug.

Ubuntu 18, how to update Gem?
@ddw_music Sorry. Unsure. Not using Linux for Gem and currently reading up on video backends (which used to be called plugins).
Ye olde Gem used the QT, SGI and JPEG plugins in windows if I remember correctly.
But you might need some libraries installed too....... README.linux ..... ?
The readme is from an older attempt at 0.94, but there is a bit about libraries for some video formats.

@prandam Try this....... https://github.com/rickygraham/grambilib/blob/master/v1.2/msp/grambipan~.mxo/Contents/MacOS/grambipan~
Actually you will probably need [grambidec~] too and should probably grab them all..... https://github.com/rickygraham/grambilib/blob/master/README.md
and if successful here is a helpfile for it........ grambilib-help.pd
If you get nowhere try an email to @ricky (click @ricky for the link)

so many unread messages not listed in my "unread" section
Hi there,
thank you @EEight for you work! I'm a compulsive reader, and missing posts makes me (relatively) sick.
Each time I'm away from keyboard for a week or two I experience the same behaviour : instead of the tens of unread posts I'd hope to find in my "unread" section, only the more recent of them are to be found. I couldn't find any option in my profile settings to be tweaked. Is there something I can do, outside of using the "recent" section and go down the timeline?
Thank you!

Controlling a synth with ONLY A SLIDER AND BUTTON
Hi
So I have edited it to add more parameters and make it bigger. I have put in a parameter called 'sequence randomiser' and set it up so that when you bang it, you can select a key for the sequence to be randomised in from the Min-Max section at the bottom of the slider, you can then use the bang again to select that sequence.
What I would like to do is implement is a similar system to the one on the right hand side of the patch, which makes the slider snap to each parameter, on MIN-MAX section, only for the time that the 'sequence randomiser' parameter is selected. However, I am struggling to get my head round the expr which is calculating this process so am unable to modify it in order to effect the MIN-MAX section. I've attached the patch so you can have a look.
If you have time to have a look at this would be totally great thanks in advance Synth_Slider_Controller.pd
Controlling a synth with ONLY A SLIDER AND BUTTON
@djpersonalspace Yes, exactly. The second expression basically just reverses the first one. So from the actual value, the first expression gives the number of the section you clicked on. The second expression takes this number and makes a value out of it again.
There is one trick though: As the number is rounded down by int(), the (451-128)/(9*2) part adds the height of half a segment to the value, so you land in the middle of the section. I put the comments with the ---- lines also in the middle of the section. So now the slider jumps upward if you are below the middle and downward, if you are above
Edit: int() is not that important here, the second expression would give the lower boundary of each section anyway.
ofelia openframeworks lua (learning)
@Jona Thanks for posting the resources. I also wonder which section is the most appropriate to post ofelia related questions in this forum.
I personally think we can post graphics related issues(e.g. drawing images..) in the pixel# section and other non-graphics related things(e.g. lua script..) in the technical issues# section.
faustgen~ - the FAUST compiler embedded in a Pure Data external
Yes, there is a link to the pd-faust (faust~) project in the help file and in the legacy section of the readme. I can't list the different features between the two objects, sorry. There are too many little things. I guess the best way would be to try both What I can tell is that faust~ is based on the pure language so you have to install Faust and the pure language but it has the FAUST internal MIDI support and it dynamically creates Pd GUI to control the FAUST engine. What I tried to do with faustgen~ is offer an object easy to install and easy to use (Faust is embedded in the external there is nothing more to install) with the similar features to faustgen~ for Max - but the GUI and the MIDI are not managed by the object you have to patch it with Pd.
