    Hi Nau,

Great stuff, look forward to hearing progress.
I have re gained momentum now and hope to make some meaningfull in roads before Christmas.

    All the best

Nau, I have tried inverse filtering / deconvolution in Pd some time ago, and found that most can be done with existing Pd (-extended) objects. Some remarks:

1 - Pd's max FFT frame size is 2^17, above that you get weird results.

2 - Pd's FFT objects don't assume zero phase centered signal. Say you have all spectrum coefficients at phase zero, you don't get a zero phase IR upon IFFT. So for some purposes you may need to rotate the signal or otherwise alternate the spectrum coefficients' phases.

3 - [bsaylor/partconv~] does partitioned convolution. Use it when you want low-latency convolution. You must have a minimum phase kernel to get low latency! See: http://www.katjaas.nl/minimumphase/minimumphase.html.

The serious issues with deconvolution are in the math itself, rather than in limitations of Pd objects. To mention a few: it requires division, which leads to instable results when spectrum coefficients are small or zero amplitude (which they are at the spectrum low and high end), so you need something like 'Kirkeby inverse filter'. Also, the resulting IR may be too big for it's frame and it's tails will wrap around if it was not sufficiently zero padded. I guess such issues are discussed in the thesis.

By the way does Roger Lewis really do real time convolution with an Arduino (standalone)? Did you find out which Arduino board? Did he share his Arduino code?

edit: upon closer reading I see that Arduino is used as controller, however he uses Raspberry Pi and Beagleboard as standalone convolvers. Yeah that's cool.

    Hi Katja,

I have resumed this project after a summer hiatus and have spent the past 3 days reading up on developments in the Development board world in the past 6 months.
The Arduino Uno which I have been using as a controller interfaced with PD running on my I mac does work in real time using the convolve object.

I am currently deciding whether to run the PD on Beagle Board Cubiboard or Wanda board all of which can host a full linux system. Part of me has been wondering why I am bothering when I discovered that the SM pro Audio V machine can run VST´s in standalone mode on its Linux bases VFX library software. The reason I decided its worth continuing is that whilst the V Machine is midi controlable and a stand alone multi effects system customised with faders and Knobs to control parameters in the VST's a neat little self contained stomp effects box with the Arduino controlling the development board is still compelling and user customisable ( the V Machine is completely customisable too so I am still not 100% convinced that it is sensible but since when should what is sensible get in the way of having so much fun.

Anyway the Open Music Labs Stomp shield kit looks like a nice short cut.

    http://wiki.openmusiclabs.com/wiki/StompShield

this also interfaces with the computer in their demo , the MP3 files on the site do the stomp shield more justice.

On my PD code I will post it when I clean it up and make it stable I had a few crashes just before my summer break and will be getting that up and running and cleaned up in due course.

For what I am doing the Bodilizer plug in developed by Ingmar Johanssen back in 2008 is still an absolute marvel, I use it for electric guitar models as well as Acoustic guitar and it is pretty amazing. Zoom have a new commercial pedal out called the A3 which is very nice but not user customisable my objective is to deliver a user customisable box which they can include their own IR's of their own or other peoples instruments. The Arduino Tre looks like its quite interesting coming up in Spring 2014.

Now to read the paper in the OP.

I have landed up at PD following a complete conversion and inspiration from one of your members inventions Slice Jockey and live decomposer, the modelling possibilities of DSP convolution have been occupying my studies almost exclusively in recent months and Slice Jockey really was akin to Moses meeting the Burning Bush for me a truly amazing piece of work.

Thank you very much for the post. As you mentioned that you are a musician, I would like to tell you that listening music is one of my hobbies and I become very happy if anyone share the musical post. If yo dont mind, please share some new post with the link of your music.

    Thank you!

    Hi Ronini,
Here are links to my You Tube and Reverb Nation channels.

The link to you tube is to an improv I made to a 936hz track for stimulation of the pineal gland and consciousness, I have been starting to use 432 hz A tuning.

    Hi Mod,

To add insult to injury I just got the thing to download, I think it may have been my secondary mouse control which was off that said all is well that ends well.
Thank you so much for the help Toxonic also responded to my e mail. Next up some Audio analysis tools.

    Thanks again,

    All the best

yes I have manage to download PD and other patches for it for some reason that one does not sem to want to come down nicely like the others have.
It works fine as my Mac is on a network with the linux machine and my HP Media Smart server which is windows based. If i figure out what is happening I'll let you know but my mouse settings etc are all fairly vanilla out of the OSX tin and I simply do not have the expertise at my disposal to do anything outside the box.

No Joy for me I am afraid I get a page of code my computer does seem to be playing up I'll persevere thanks for the quick reply.

Downloaded the patch on my net book running chrome in Zorin distro and patch downloaded fine for some reason my mac running snow leopard can not do it?

Hi I am new to PD and have been playing with Max Msp for 6 months on and off.
I am interested in sound modelling , I am a Guitar Player and also very interested in
live interactive jamming over the internet and live broadcast possibilities with interaction also.
Sadly two of the best show cases for this sort of thing Deep Rock Drive and Live at the Paradiso have not continued but will I think come back in one shape or form.
they were both really rather good, I also started to develop my own concept in the UK before moving to Sweden where I am continuing to develop the idea.
I am a fan of Kompoz and Ninjam and have discovered some other interesting initiatives in these directions also.
I have been working with Linux also this summer converting my net book and trying to get reaper to run in linux and playing with Ardour and Audacity I have been testing various of the music based and multi media based distros. Mostly I work on an Intel Mac and use Reaper and Logic as my interest in Plugins and porting windows based plugins for use of Mac and linux has increased I have become more curious and frustrated by how many plugins are catering solely for windows based systems.
I am very interested in the open source ethos and particularly passionate about Music education and its wider application to encourage learning across other academic and vocational disciplines Leveraging the Cool so to speak.
All of these are relatively new interests I have spent the past 10 years recovering from a successfull career in property development in London I retired to the country and pursued artistic and holistic goals finding I had sold my Soul at the wrong crossroads to pursue the wrong muse i.e money and not art. I am now blissfully happy and considerably less endowed with the devils gold it must be said.

SO here I am with my first technical question How does one load a patch that is in code into PD? I have downloaded this link http://www.toxonic.de/#guitar_rack and can not find what to do with the page of code that results in my right clicking the link? With the age old abmonition RTFM ringing in my ears I have searched and looked and failed to find anything to give me a clue ( If you don't know , and I don't ) this stuff can seem wholly baffling. Any suggestions gratefully recieved.
