Hi, this question goes out to those of you who use PD and Ableton live.

I am trying to control an instrument in Live, Live's Sampler, from PD, and I have ctlout working just fine, in that I can control parameters of filter knobs etc. on a Live Sampler from a PureData ctlout with no problem.

I am using the IAC MIDI driver to route MIDI from PD to Live as I am on a Mac OSX machine.

My problem is that when sending noteout signals, Live is receiving the MIDI as evidenced by Live's MIDI receive indicator lighting up, but it is not making notes play in the sampler, even though I have it set to receive MIDI from that IAC bus. Like I say the ctlout has no problem controlling a filter knob, etc...

Anyone have any suggestions? I am kind of a noob to MIDI stuff and to interapplication MIDI routing.

HI - I take it you've got the right button selected in the midi prefs in ableton? I think is called Track (also Remote and Sync). Also sometimes Abletons midi goes to sleep i've noticed, particularly over the IAc bus, but a restart fixes it.

i have the same problem. has someone found a solution?
midi notes generated in pd can be used for controlling external hardware synths, but not for ableton live.
no matter, if i send them over iac-bus, midipipe, or midi cable by another computer.
what is wrong with noteout?

Hi, I have this problem too.

ctlout works fine, controller messages are received (in Ableton), so the midi routing should not be the problem.

noteout is not received by ableton at all. In other words, I cannot send notes to synths in ableton.

I am running loopMidi for virtual ports. I also noticed that the ctlout shows up in the virtual midi instruments ort 1, also have tried midiyoke, no dice.

would be great if somebody could crack this one.

solved! partially.

just put makenote before noteout

then it works, for me
you might have to play around with the velocities...

ps. would be great to get other solutions or see some other people's functional patches with this, i find myself confused with routing midi (routing in general, without coloured cables!), especially from pd to other things.

are you all just trying something like this:

[64 (

[noteout]

in that case, the velocity would be assumed to be zero, which is just a noteoff message.

as Coalman says, you need to use [makenote] to set both a noteon and noteoff message. Or you can do it manually by sending [64 100( to send a note with velocity of 100, and then later send a [64 0 ( to turn that note off.
