Finally, it's done! The most polished release of Pd yet. We are further refining Pd into a truly powerful and usable programming platform.

This release is dedicated to Jamie Tittle, aka tigital, who recently died of cancer. He was a long time and key contributor to Gem and Pd in general, even while he was in the hospital undergoing treatment. He is sorely missed in this community, and I am sure by many others.

Some highlights of this release:

* more functional namespace tools ([declare] and [import])
* new appearance designed to enhance readability
* GLSL shader support in Gem
* usability improvements
* on Mac OS X, you can now build "standalone" applications
* standard locations for user-installed externals
* many bug fixes

• you can now use "~" in all paths to mean home folder, and on Windows you can use environment variables, lie %UserProfile% in paths

• [declare] and [import] now sorted out for loading (but much work needs to be done before there namespace support is complete)

• "File -> Save As" defaults to the Home folder (~/) on Mac OSX

• new patches default to the folder last saved in

• included pgp_opengl aka 3dp on GNU/Linux and Mac OS X

• 'hardware' and 'deprecated' removed from libraries loaded by default

• On Debian/Ubuntu, the packages now install into /usr rather than /usr/local

• On Mac OS X, you can now build "standalone" applications from the File menu.

• included config in Info.plist for the Spotlight Importer

KNOWN BUGS

• check http://puredata.info/dev/bugtracker before reporting bugs

• Escape, Enter, and Ctrl/Cmd-W don't close the Path and Startup preferences

• pdp_opengl is alpha and will definitely crash Pd

• loading pdp_opengl will crash Pd if X11 is not open before trying to load it

• the GUI runs slower in some situations

The new visual style is very nice indeed, and that little 'console' toggle on the console is excellent.

But the windows version doesn't like 80% of my .obj files, is this normal?

I deleted the reference to the .mtl file and it works now.

On my previous version of gem, [model] was able to load an .obj even if there were no .mtl file.

Has anyone been able to make build application command work? No matter what I try, this is what I keep receiving as an error message:

Yeah, it was a stupid mistake on my part, its fixed in the beta builds for Pd-extended 0.41.4

You can fix Pd-extended 0.40.3 following these instructions.

yes, please post them to the tracker. But first, try searching to see if they have been reported already. If so, add your experiences to those threads.

it works for me using Pd-extended 0.42.5 and 0.43. If its not working for you on either of those versions, please submit a bug report (you can do it from the Help menu in Pd-extended).

Hello hans. I just installed the latest version and got this in the Pd window:

WARNING: 64-bit builds are still beta, some libraries are known to have serious issues (cyclone, maxlib, moonlib, moocow, pdp, bsaylor, etc.)

Since I depend on cyclone quite a bit, I tried installing the i386 one instead, but apt-get didn't want to fix the dependencies. Before I do anything too major to resolve this, do you happen to know which specific objects from these libraries don't work in 64-bit?

If you've been using cyclone on 64-bit already, then you are probably not affected. The 64-bit bugs are not new and are because cyclone uses the old 32-bit only API for accessing arrays.

You can see more info in the Help Browser, you'll see at the top of the listing "64bit-warning-plugin", and in there, there is a README.txt with more detail.

Ah, thanks. I was worried the list would be longer than that. Maybe it wouldn't hurt to have the warning direct the user to that README so they can find out quickly whether or not their patches will be affected should they upgrade to 64-bit?

thanks for all the work you guys have been doing. I'm really stoked about this new release. Magic Glass is great for debugging. Can't wait to get into GUI editing more. Also little details, like the signal cords being wider is great.

I've trying out 0.43 right now, but the first thing I've noticed is that all menus are in Dutch (I'm a dutch speaking belgian, so I guess pd detected the locale settings on my Win7). Is there an option to have everything back in english?
