The way I figured I could do this is by having a text object where each step is repeated as many times as desired on its line, e.g:

It works fine if the text is defined manually: I can cycle through message index and see that they indeed correspond to their slot as defined by commas.

I get into trouble whenever I try to populate that list: the resulting text object sees the commas as symbols and each line is taken as its own message.

How do I convert the list and its commas to end up with one message per comma-separated integer when using ```
text get?

Why should the behavior of [text get] be different for the same text, dependent on how it was entered? What state is being hidden? Anyhow, I found that the set method for [text define] works more as I would expect, try it and let us know if it works for you.

Never would have thought of using [text define]. Now it behaves the way I want.

I ended up filtering out all the semicolons and adding them back for each step of the list that will actually be driven by the clock (the one at the bottom).

I'm making a step sequencer interfacing with an old Launchpad, to be run on a Raspberry Pi - working pretty well so far although doing this all in Vanilla is quite a challenge!
