How to send a variable number from Lua to Pure Data?
@romulovieira-me In your Pd/bin folder you will find an executable.... pdsend.exe for windows...... or pd.darwin or pd.linux (I think) for other os's.
You can tell Lua where to find it (maybe just copy it into a folder that Lua uses), and call it within your script.
In Pd you would then use [netreceive] to receive the message.
It will probably be a lot easier than creating a socket in Lua.
I don't know Lua.
You would use pdsend (in Python) and [netreceive] (in Pd) like this........ https://guitarextended.wordpress.com/2012/11/03/make-python-and-pure-data-communicate-on-the-raspberry-pi/
You will need to work out how to script the Python equivalent in Lua.
David.
"no matching packages for your architecture"
You can check "Open with Rosetta" in app properties.
For Gem better use last darwin version here because many bugs has been fixed https://git.iem.at/pd/Gem/-/jobs/
Debugging Externals With Xcode 12
tungee,
This is whatpd-lib-builder
eventually uses for the architecture:
variable system = Darwin
variable target.arch = x86_64
variable target.triplet = x86_64 apple darwin20.6.0
variable version = 0.6.0
variable version.flag = -mmacosx-version-min=10.6
Not sure what would imply silicon. If I understand the problem it's that lldb
doesn't see the dynamically loaded library (my external) and even after it's loaded, it still doesn't see it. I confess I'm mostly used to gdb and lldb is totally new to me.
Building on Windows - works from Git source, not from tarball
I wanted to build PD on Windows 10 to get ASIO support. I failed when I used the "Source" files from the PD website. I succeeded when I used source that I cloned from Github. I followed the same instructions from the wiki both when I failed and when I succeeded. (They are the same as in the manual, just a little more concise.)
I am sharing below my terminal output from the failed build attempts from the downloaded source code (the tar.gz file). Some of these messages suggest that there might be errors in the makefiles. I don't know anything about makefiles, so I can't really interpret the errors. But I did want to pass them along, in case a developer might find them useful. Here you go:

Hello,
I am trying the same thing. Is it related to the fact that they are Darwin objects? Or something of that issue. I can get some of the objects working, but a number of them I cannot.
Help?
What did I do wrong? Darwin objects not being recognized
Hello all,
So, I was rearranging my folders and trying to clean them up. I got most of my libraries in folders recognized. I am having problems finding the "GEM" objects. Oddly, I do not really use GEM, but a few objects I use are things like Average in the markex library.
I think I had to do something to get Darwin objects recognized. Anyone know what I did wrong?
I was trying to move all of my folders of PD objects to the Documents/PD/ location.
Any help would be very appreciated.
Netreceive 3000 / Send2Pd on strike?
@nhouse Maybe python cannot actually find the pdsend binary?
Does it need to be copied from Pd/bin into a folder known to python or registered somehow with the OS?
So has that link (Python finding pdsend.linux) been broken when updating Python for your original setup and not made at all (pdsend.darwin) for your OSX test?
David.
Starting up problem.
@beem Yes, you cannot rename main.pd........ it's the folder that can be renamed.
@JackOats No. In edit mode drag across the [declare -path patch_editor_abs] with the mouse to select it and then copy it and paste it within the main.pd window before editing it.
If @beem has not solved the problem for you then.........
Let's try something else. Trying to find what is going on.
On your screenshot were a lot of the modules named in red and marked couldn't create.
Choose one, say basic-osc.
In main.pd click on the file menu and then "Put" "Object" and then type basic-osc into the object.
Does it create?....... pop up as a bigger window with the oscillator in it?
No?
Go into the patch_editor_abs folder and copy basic-osc.pd and paste it into the Pd/bin folder, or into the "extra" folder if there is one (the one that contains the ggee folder).
Back to main.pd and try putting the object basic-osc again.
No?
Yes?
If it does then try the module button for basic-osc.
Does it now work?
No?
Copy main.pd into the patch_editor_abs folder..... open it..... and try the first step again (put, object, basic-osc).
If none of that works then I think it must be a security permissions problem.
David.
Externals in Purr-Data
Hello,
I'm struggling to install the helios external library (https://github.com/timredfern/pd_helios) in Purr-Data on a mac running 10.15.6
I think I managed to build the library (it created a darwin file) and i moved the whole folder to
/Applications/Pd-l2ork.app/Contents/Resources/app.nw/extra/pd_helios
My startup preferences have that same path in the search path window and "helios" in the libraries one. but when i open Purr-Data i get "helios: can't load library"
What obvious thing am i missing? I have not used Pd in years...
I also tried copying the helios folder to /Library/Pd-l2ork and adding that path to the search path preferences, to no avail.
THANKS ALL!

@mganss on Win Vanilla 0.50 and 0.51 the help-patch doesn't load correctly:
The patch loads but doesn't get drawn: The patch stays in background on the taskbar and appears to be blank. Might be a GUI issue!?
Could anyone post a screenshot of the helpfile, please?

managed to find a screenshot, but still doesn't load in Win Vanilla.
